A Findlay Story Since 1980

Ming's story in Findlay began long before the first order was served.

They came to Findlay in 1980 with the help of a sponsor who welcomed them into the community and helped them begin a new life in America. They married in 1982 and, a decade after arriving in Findlay, took a leap of their own.

Around Thanksgiving in 1990, Ming's opened in the Findlay Village Mall.

For the first year, they ran the restaurant themselves. They worked hard, learned what their customers loved and built a following one meal at a time.

And Findlay kept coming back.

The Favorites Stayed Favorites

As Ming's grew, one thing never changed: the dishes the community loved.

Generations of customers have grown up with their own Ming's order, from ABC Chicken and fried rice to those unmistakable egg rolls. Ming's became more than a place to pick up dinner. It became one of those places that simply feels like part of Findlay.

Ming's was voted Best Chinese Food and was recognized during the 48th annual Small Business Awards in 2011, recognition that reflected what longtime customers already knew: Ming's had become a beloved Findlay business.

But the greatest measure of success may be the customers who have been coming back for decades.

Giving Back the Help They Were Given

There is another side to the Ming’s story that many customers may never see.

When they came to America, people helped them. They never forgot it.

As the restaurant grew, Ming's became a place where young people could find more than a job. They encouraged their younger employees to work hard in school, improve their grades and build a future for themselves.

Helping young people was their way of passing along some of the kindness and opportunity they had received when they first came to Findlay.

That spirit helped create something bigger than a restaurant. It created a family.

Growing Up at Ming’s

Some people work at a restaurant. Others grow up in one.

Larry has known the Ming's family for more than 20 years, beginning when he was just 18 years old.

William started working for Ming's at just 14 years old. Over the years, the relationship became much more than employer and employee. Ming's became family, and that team member now looks forward to one day carrying on what Ming's built and taking over the restaurant.

And Now, Ming’s Is Hitting the Road

More than three decades after opening in the mall, the food Findlay has loved for years is going somewhere new.

Ming's Machine brings the Ming's tradition out into the community, serving festivals, businesses, celebrations and events from one unmistakable red food truck.

It is something new, built on something that has been here all along.

Same family. Same favorites, now alongside bold new dishes and creative fusion mashups. Same gratitude for the community that welcomed them. Now with wheels.
